Selection of Hitachi/Conex
EDM Wire Grades
H-BZ-U
U type wire is a standard hard brass wire offered by Hitachi/Conex
Cable. This wire has a 60:40 chemical composition and 142,000 psi
tensile strength. This allows for faster cutting speed and better
cutting accuracy compared to other competitive brass wires. BZ-U wire
is relatively stiff and is very straight (low residual cast). Therefore,
the automatic connection rate can be raised whether the connection
mechanism is pipe type, water jet cutting type, or anneal cutting
type. U type wire is made with a slight Paraffin coating to protect
the wire surface and ensure a smooth wire feed.
H-BZ-K
K type wire has the same chemical composition and the same tensile
strength as U type. K type wire was developed to make an extremely
clean and smooth wire surface and to eliminate the powder problems,
especially for Mistubishi machines. Hitachišs innovative wire die
technology enabled this super clean wire surfaces to be available
in the U.S. market. BZ-K wire does not require any protective coating
to prevent scratches or dents; therefore, BZ-K is a Non-Paraffin coated
wire. This wire is highly recommended for any Mitsubishi machine models.

H-BZ-B
B type wire is a unique, high zinc content brass wire with 57:43 chemical
composition. This wire is very suitable for most economical, faster
cutting EDM operations. Compared to other standard brass wires with
65:35 chemical composition, B wire can reach approximately 8 to 10%
faster cutting speeds for various applications. BZ-B is a good alternative
to Zinc coated wire for faster cutting speed and more economical than
any other coated wires. This results in less adherence of cut powder
to the surface so you can improve the surface precision and finishing.
ACZ/ABZ
ACZ is a standard annealed wire offered by Hitachi/Conex Cable. ACZ
wire has 60:40 chemical composition to optimize the cutting speed.
Tensile strength of ACZ wire is 64,000 psi or over and the elongation
is over 15%. ACZ is suitable for moderate angle taper cutting such
as 10 to 15 degree angles. ABZ is also available in a 65:35 chemical
composition. This wire is specially made for European machines such
as Charmilles or AGIE. The software of European machines requires
use of the standard chemical composition and wire with a higher zinc
content may not work as well. Hitachi/Conex will provide the 65:35
composition wire wound on a DIN type spool for European machines.

ABZ-T
ABZ-T is a very specialized annealing wire with a conventional 65:35
chemical composition. T is a strong, highly flexible wire developed
with Hitachišs thermal processing technology. It has 20% elongation
and up to 71,000 psi tensile strength. BZ-T is very suitable for working
on thick pieces and allows taper cutting of wide angles, 10 to30 degrees.
When working on thick pieces or performing high taper angle cutting,
BZ-T wire prevents the deflection of the object from a guide by raising
tension. This surface treatment method enhances the sliding nature
on the guide surface, which reduces taper angle and shape errors.

Hitachi Zn Coated Wire Hi-Falcon
Hitachi has developed a new Zn coated EDM wire, named Hi-Falcon, under
the unique and new patent pending process. By using high conductive
core material, the discharge characteristics of the wire are enhanced.
The outside layer has a very uniformly diffused surface with approximately
30 m wall thickness and higher Zn contents. As a result, Hi-Falcon
can maintain the constant discharging during the operation even on
thicker work piece. In addition, thermal resistant core material provides
excellent tensile strength during the operation. Hi-Falcon is very
suitable for both speed cutting and fine finish application.
